The design re-imagines the relationship between built environments and nature, setting new benchmarks for sustainability and aesthetic harmony, a model of eco-sensitive and disaster-resilient architecture envisioned on fragile sites.
The island site, overlooking Banasura Sagar Lake and its surrounding mountainscapes, called for a design approach rooted in sensitivity—to both aesthetics and resilience.
The process began with an ecological study of the site’s topography, slopes, soils, drainage patterns, and micro-climate. These parameters guided the overall site planning, ensuring that interventions worked with, rather than against, the natural systems. Since the site lacked existing vegetation, an ecological restoration plan was developed, using indigenous species from the Nilgiri Biosphere. This revived biodiversity, re-established habitat networks, and gradually wove the development into its natural setting.
View and visual quality became key determinants of the spatial framework. Cottages and private pools were carefully placed through a staggered layout, ensuring uninterrupted lake views while maintaining privacy. The main block, positioned on the ridge, captures panoramic views of water, mountains, and sky, with its form integrated into the contours to minimize disturbance and maximize experiential value.
