EDITORIAL
SHARED HISTORIES, COMMON VALUES
Since its inception in 2001, the LA Journal has explored the discourse surrounding the discipline of landscape architecture and allied fields, primarily in the Indian region, with occasional features on neighbouring countries. This time, the LA Journal presents two special issues exclusively dedicated to the following countries: LA-79 | Afghanistan, Pakistan & Sri Lanka LA-80 | Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar & Bangladesh Please note that these issues do not cover India.
South Asia, as a term, reflects the contemporary political boundaries encompassing India and its neighbouring countries. However, when viewed through the lens of colonial history, the region is often referred to as the “Indian subcontinent.” Despite these distinctions, the region has been historically unified by shared cultures and geographies, a connection that has persisted from its earliest history through to the present day. Numerous examples of sites, places, settlements, towns, urban centers, religious places, and routes that connect different parts of the region, with a history spanning many millennia, serve as evidence of a flourishing living culture, forming an integral part of the understanding of the Eastern world.
