My entry into architecture could be described as an accident- but a happy one. From then on, however, there was no looking back. All of a sudden, I began to see so many of my memories growing up as a child through a new lens. I grew up in Nagercoil which is much like Kerala. The school I studied in was not just large and spacious, but sensitively and aesthetically designed with terraced playgrounds, roads, and pathways that respected the topography and natural drainage. The town where I grew up was lush and green, and most of our time was spent outdoors. From climbing trees to plucking mangoes and guavas to maintaining our garden patch at home to playing the famous marakorungu [monkey on a tree] game, I grew up close to nature. As I embarked on my Undergraduate course in Architecture, a deeper understanding and fascination for connection with nature emerged, which made me choose campus design for my U.G. thesis and subsequently to pursue Post-graduation in Landscape Architecture from School of Planning and Architecture SPA, New Delhi.
