SPOORTHI STHALAM MEMORIAL | HYDERABAD A DESIGN COMPETITION Smruti Balvalli LA 74 |
|
Memorials hold a very important place in the realm of public landscapes. They are shaped to hold the values of the person or event in time, while hoping for a continuing dialogue with the future generations. In October 2021, the Indian Society of Landscape Architects [on behalf of the S. Jaipal Reddy Memorial Foundation] hosted a design competition that invited design proposals from landscape architects to respond and demonstrate excellence in the design of Spoorthi Sthalam, a memorial, dedicated to late S. Jaipal Reddy, former Union Minister and the first South Indian politician, awarded as the Outstanding Parliamentarian. Spread over a time span of three months [October to December 2021], the competition was planned in two stages. It is the first professional design competition organized by ISOLA to give landscape design a public platform, so as to be carried through on-ground. The competition was won by landscape architect Smruti Balvalli, Nature Narratives, Bengaluru.
