28 th day of November 2015 marked an abrupt and untimely demise of the illustrious life of landscape architect, Mohammad Shaheer. His contribution to the field of education and practice of landscape architecture and beyond will be a guiding light for generations to come. With his passing away, the Journal has lost one of its prime guiding forces. For us Editors who were formerly his students, it is a deep, personal loss of a mentor and parent figure, memories of whom we will cherish all our lives.

Work profile of Anuradha Mathur and Dilip da Cunha, spread across academics and practice in University of Pennsylvania, involves the deep study of the inherent and supreme forces of nature with its processes and cultural issues. Their path breaking work of the research in nature in various contexts has been showcased in many exhibitions in India and abroad. They have co-authored many books on their areas of research. In a special feature they share thoughts on various aspects of their works and landscape architecture in general.

We hardly get to see urban environmental issues as the focus of works in our office portfolios due to multiple reasons. For the past few years, these issues are regularly in focus in many commendable entries of Landscape Foundation Students’ Design Competition. Sewage and garbage disposal, blocked drainage channels, back lanes of streets, abandoned sites are some of the thought-triggering situations that have been addressed by students in this year’s competition based on the theme of Water - Precious in Design. Ideas and design solutions address water as a precious natural resource rather than only an element to enhance design aesthetics.
