Started as a small publication in February 2001, LA! Journal has grown to become a hundred and more page publication ready to enter the next decade. Since its inception, with an ever-increasing number of professionals, students, and writers, the journal has never found itself wanting for credible content for each issue. Be it eminent professionals, young students studying in India or professionals settled abroad, academicians and designers from the related fields or scientists, a wide range of people have contributed their share in making the each issue better. The journal has, from early on, had its own dedicated subscriber base along with a gradual and welcome increase new subscribers over the years.
With the journal entering its second decade, various aspects of the business of running a publication are on our minds. This includes honorariums to authors and contributors, more regional correspondents across the country, and an increased circulation among institutes, organizations and Government agencies. We plan to engage teams of professionals to review new projects and publications more often, and broaden the scope of journal to include fine arts and design by collaborating with fellow professionals and designers from these fields.
The confidence gained through the journal prompted us to expand the scope of our activities by constituting Landscape Foundation, India, a non-profit trust, in April 2009. The Foundation was set up with the objective of promoting the cause of education in landscape architecture in India. It has been organizing the Annual Students Landscape Design Competition for the students of Architecture and Arts Colleges all over India. The Foundation is also in the process of compiling a new publication on landscape architecture for school students and young architects in the coming year. We take this opportunity to invite interested students and researchers who want to work in the field of landscape research to come forward with their ideas and suggestions.
